Communities would have to live in permanently fire-scarred environments if they wanted to keep the landscape sufficiently cleared to minimise the risk of bushfires, a parliamentary committee heard on Thursday - NSW Rural Fire Service commissioner Phil Koperberg told the Joint Select Committee on Bushfires quality was more important than quantity when it came to hazard reduction - The Committee is examining issues surrounding the bushfires which blazed across NSW for a month over Christmas.
