Drug crusader, Mrs Betty Bourke, or Supermum as she was known, received support from Penrith Council to provide premises for a drug referral centre - Mrs Bourke received the tag after counselling drug users wherever they happened to be - in sites ranging from telephone booths to milk bars - She was granted the use of half a council-owned house for herself and volunteers to carry out their work.
