The Emu Plains Correctional Centre is on about 200 acres which were obtained in 1914 for a 'place of detention' Where vegetable growing & farm work could be done - The centre was originally to be for the first offenders & young offenders - However it was used as a male prison & later as a female centre - Prisoners at the Goulburn jail made the dwelling huts for the complex & in 1915, 10 prisoners were housed there - By 1930 there were 78 huts.
