Biography/History:
Stuart MacDonald is a sixty eight year old Scot who went to sea on cargo ships when he was seventeen and became a captain by the time he was thirty. He has been racing and cruising sailing boats all his life and has crossed the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean single handed. Professionally he has held senior positions in maritime organisations and run his own company providing advice on maritime issues to government bodies and international organisations. He retired in 2010 and set off on the trip of a lifetime. He has a grown up son and daughter.
