Biography/History:
Agnes Nieuwenhuizen established the Centre for Youth Literature (CYL) at the State Library of Victoria. In 1994, Agnes also established the Youth Literature Days of the Melbourne Writers Festival. She continued to devise and co-ordinate this program until 1998 by which time audiences of teenagers had increased to 3000 over three days. Agnes has written, reviewed and spoken widely in the field and is considered an expert in Australian and international youth literature and a leading advocate for the promotion of books and reading to teenagers. In 1995, Agnes received the Dromkeen Medal for services to youth literature.
