Taken from the top of the coal elevator, looking east. View shows the Penrith Railway Station and surrounding yards. The Red Cow Hotel can be seen on the right. The railway line reached Penrith in 1863 with the original station being erected on the down side of the station in 1863. It was replaced by a brick and stone building in 1880. The up platform was not built until 1890 following the duplication of the railway line in 1886.
