An obituary for Mark Towle, of Emu, one of the district's oldest residents. He was 77 years of age, born at Lenton, Nottinghamshire, England. It gives details of his marriage to his first wife, wife Sarah Ann Langham, his arrival in Sydney around 1861; his store at Emu Plains and the construction of a new store and the Assembly Hall at Emu. After the death of his wife he remarried the widow of the late John Ausburn on 19th October 1903. He leaves a widow and eight children, Henry, Emma, William, Mary, Frederick, Charles, Grace, and Sarah Ann.
