Provides current information about - Exhibitions and Events - Workshops and Courses for adults and kids. You can browse and search the collections and online catalogues and view images, including the Press clippings database. The Australian collection provides a comprehensive overview of Australian art in all media from early colonial times to the present. There is also a separate selection under Aboriginal Art. The old courts display a strong representation of some of the most loved Australian painters and sculptors of the 19th century, including national icons such as Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin and Arthur Streeton, and an impressive collection of key works of Australian Modernism. The Aboriginal collection reflects the long history of traditional art across the continent, and contemporary practice and innovation in all media. The Asian collection has main strengths in Chinese and Japanese art from ancient times to the present. It also traces the spread of Buddhism from India across central Asia to China and Japan and into Southeast Asia. This department is divided by geographical origin and you may browse within these areas by clicking on the appropriate image - for example East Asia or Southeast Asia. The Western collection presents a small but impressive collection of European art from the 16th century in Italy and the Netherlands through to the 19th century, where there is a strong holding of British Victorian painting and sculpture and an excellent collection of modern British masters and a small but excellent collection of European modernists and Contemporary art, including Australian art.There is a strong holding of international and Australian art after 1965.The Photography collection and Twentieth century works on paper are also shown in smaller galleries. Western art can be browsed according to chronology, for example European art before 1900, Modern, Contemporary; there is also a Photography option. The Art Prizes Database includes information about Major Art Prizes such as The Archibald Prize - The Wynne Prize - The Sir John Sulman Prize - The Dobell Prize for Drawing and The Photographic Portrait Prize. You can access Archives and Art Weblinks, find information on Art Scholarships and Grants, History of the gallery building and collections and more. Educational resources are included for Years K-6 designed to meet outcomes of the K-6 syllabus across all the key learning areas. Informaation for Years 7-12 includes Education programs that address the NSW syllabus for Visual Arts - History - Languages - Chemistry of Arts and Tertiary Education resources for undergraduate and postgraduate students are also provided.
